Jimmy Buffet likes his with lettuce and tomato Heinz 57 and French-fried potatoes big kosher pickle and a cold draft beer. I like mine with lettuce, tomato, onion and Jalapeno, a big slice of cheese with Katsup and mustard. Pretty much a Number 4 from Whataburger, but that is not the only place I go to get my burger. Now, you can’t get your good burger anywhere, there are several factors that need to be considered. What dose that patty look like? Is thin and dry? Thick and juicy? I like mine to be juicy, you should be able to taste the meat, I mean that’s why you ordered a burger anyway. The bun seems unassuming but plays a big role in the burger. The bun should be soft and light, but strong enough to hold it all together. I hate it when the bun falls apart after only a few bites, that means you will have to eat it with a fork. It’s a burger, it’s not supposed to be eaten with a fork, it’s downright embarrassing. Fresh vegetables are a must, biting into a piece of wilted lettuce can spoil the whole experience.

So where do you find the best burger?

Here are my go-to, not in any particular order.

Longhorn Café, home of the Big Juicy, any place that has juicy in the name is going to be on my list.

Chris Madrid’s. this place has been though some challenges over the last few years but have managed to come out of it. If you like lots of cheese and Jalapenos on your burger, you get just that here.

Sam’s Burger Joint. Another big juicy burger and where else do you get your burger branded with the name of the place. I would suggest having the tots form Sams, but we can talk about this another time.

Babe’s Old Fashion. A constantly good burger and fries, make sure to try some Honey Mustard.

Freihiet Country store (New Braunfels). These guys have it all, a great patty, excellent bun and all the right fixens.
