A new documentary is coming to HBO that will look at the Soft Rock sounds of the late ‘70s and early ‘80s, featuring artists such as Christopher Cross, Michael McDonald, Kenny Loggins, Steely Dan and Toto. A lot of artists were veteran session musicians whose inspiration came from jazz, funk and R&B, funneling those styles into a new strain of slick, assiduously crafted pop-rock. You’ll hear from Michael McDonald, Steve Lukather of the band Toto and San Antonio’s own Christopher Cross among others.

Yacht Rock: A Documentary will debut on HBO on Nov. 29 at 9 p.m. ET and be available to stream on Max.
