2021 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame: Paul McCartney, Foo Fighters sing ‘Get Back’

CLEVELAND — The Foo Fighters celebrated their enshrinement into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Saturday night with a nod toward the past, jamming with Paul McCartney in an uptempo version of “Get Back.”
McCartney, who inducted the group into the Hall of Fame, took the stage to sing The Beatles’ 1970 No. 1 hit, sharing a microphone with Foo Fighters singer Dave Grohl, Rolling Stone reported.
During his induction speech, McCartney, 78, compared his career after The Beatles’ breakup to Grohl emerging with the Foo Fighters after the untimely demise of Nirvana in the 1990s.
“We had a great time with our groups, but then eventually tragedy happened, and my group broke up,” McCartney said. “The same happened with Dave: His group broke up under tragic circumstances. And so then the question is, ‘What do you do now?’ And we both were presented with that question. In my case, I thought, ‘Well, I’ll make an album where I play all the instruments myself.’ So I did that. Dave’s group broke up -- what’s he do? He makes an album where he plays all the instruments himself. Do you think this guy’s stalking me?
“Anyway, so me, I’m going to name my new group, and I call them Wings. So Dave’s got the same problem, and he’s got to think of a name for the group, so he comes up with Foo Fighters.”
“Get Back” previewed the three-part streaming movie that will feature unseen footage of The Beatles, Variety reported. But the song came after an energetic three-song set by the Foo Fighters.
Grohl, drummer Taylor Hawkins, keyboardist Rami Jaffee, bassist Nate Mendel and guitarists Chris Shiflett and Pat Smear injected a jolt into what had already been electric night in Cleveland, playing a three-song set that included “Best of You,” “My Hero” and “Everlong,” Rolling Stone reported.
The Foo Fighters were inducted in their first year of eligibility, just like Nirvana, which was enshrined in 1994, the magazine reported.
After entering the Hall, the Foo Fighters got back with McCartney.
